Description
The Back 2 Back, Fish, and Bird & Fish Archaeology Barrettes, are part of the” ancient ties” barrette series, featuring biblical motifs originally found on a pottery shards discovered in Israel.
Fashioned from hardwoods by Etz-Ron, these hair barrettes are decorated with designs patterned after those found on pottery of the Canaanite, Egyptian and Philistine peoples from before the period of the exodus through the period of the Israelite kings. Typical motifs found on the pottery were fish and birds looking back (Philistine), birds and palm, ibex and palm (Canaanite) and geometric patterns.
Hair combs, hair slides and hair ornaments have been found in archaeological sites in Israel dating from as early as 12,000 years ago, made from shell, bone, and wood.
The hair barrettes are made from a variety of light colored hard woods such as maple, beech, cherry and more. The metal barrette fastening on the back side is screwed into the wood.
The designs have been silk screened onto the wood and then finished with polyurethane.
