How do I care for my cutting board?
Etz-Ron Challah Cutting Boards will last for years if taken care of properly! Some of my customers have had the same board for over 25 years! First, choose the side you want to cut on, and use only that side for cutting. Never immerse your cutting board in water, or run it under a water stream, rather wipe clean with a damp cloth. Rejuvenate your board every month by applying a coat of mineral oil, it is easy to do and food safe. Just wipe it on and and then wipe off the excess oil with a soft lint free cloth. If your cutting board has a knife, do not put it into the dishwasher, use a damp rag to clean it and a soft cloth to dry it before inserting it back into the slot.
Why is is good to keep wooden items out of direct sunlight or Intense Heat?
Wood has the property of taking on water from the air, and also expelling it. The scientific word is hygroscopy. (Here is the definition courtesy of wikipedia: Hygroscopy is the phenomenon of attracting and holding water molecules via either absorption or adsorption from the surrounding environment, which is usually at normal or room temperature. If water molecules become suspended among the substance’s molecules, adsorbing substances can become physically changed, e.g., changing in volume, boiling point, viscosity or some other physical characteristic or property of the substance. )
That is why you will see seasonal changes with wood. Because wood continues to move the process can cause warping, it can grow in length and shrink. To protect your wooden item, it is a good idea to keep it away from climatic extremes like direct sunlight, and forced heat elements.
Why is shipping so expensive?
Etz-Ron is located in Israel, and that means international air shipping. Each package has a tracking number. Postage rates have skyrocketed recently. We have no control over that! In addition, Etz-Ron’s shipping rates include packing up your package so that it is not damaged during it’s journey to you, and waiting in line at the post office to send it out, emailing you with the info after the post office. The rates you see here for shipping do not accurately reflect the time it actually takes me to get your package out! We end up sharing the cost with you.
